I think my meditation practice, more than anything, has affected my relationship to death; it has helped to alleviate my fears. Being able to experience the "oneness" I often read about is so liberating on so many levels. So it is no longer just a concept in the mind. This experience, over time, seems to cleanse my perception and helps me to see that death is a necessary (and even potentially beautiful) part of this journey...And somehow not ignoring the reality of it keeps me moving forward with clarity and purpose. But I also believe it is only a part of the journey, the most mysterious part by far, but that the cycle continues.

Thank you for your thoughts MJC. I agree with you, that meditation has been my greatest help in life. I practice the dying meditation and hope I can practice this up to the time of my death. Would be a shame to have practiced it all these years and not put into practice when actively dying. But as you know, we never know our time of death, so I hope I can be gentle with my mind and thoughts when death approaches.
I work with dying people and see some good deaths and some very sad deaths. They have been great teachers to me...to quote Joshua's father!
I liked the fathers quote "is it tragic to wake up before dying" I added "or is this the peace we always wanted to know"?
